Behavior of the soil chemical attributes in response to application of wastewater of domestic origin

Abstract

The controled application of wastewater in soil has become a feasible environmental practice for final disposal of this residue, as well as an alternative to increase the agricultural boundary, because the wastewater can supply the water crop needs and provide nutrients to the crops. In this context, the study aimed to investigate the behavior of the chemical attributes in the soil profile, in response to application of urban wastewater and to compare the results with that obtained with the conventional management. The study was carried out in the Experimental Unit of Wastewater Treatment and Irrigated Agriculture, at Universidade Federal de Viçosa - UFV. The results obtained permit to conclude that the controled application of wastewater may be na alternative to raise the potential of food production, without negative effects in the soil and underground water.
