Democracy and institutive movements

We live in an age of few certainties, of deep despondency in relation to society, politics, human action and its power. The fragility of collectively instituted feelings prolongs and intensifies the emptiness and isolation in which daily life submerges each of us. But what is most grave in the contemporary scepticism is not the disbelief in relation to the feelings which maintain the common world and individual private existence: it is also and above all the renouncing of that which gives human existence its originality. For all those who are alive, the horizon of what we can call the sense of existence is pure functionality. Only the human escapes the rules of functionality and frees him/herself in relation to the finality of preservation and reproduction: for this reason, the feelings he/she creates have finalities which go far beyond simple survival.
