Ubiquitous work in post-graduation stricto sensu in education: in/extensification and multi-tasking

ABSTRACT

The work of university teaching mediated by digital and mobile technologies increasingly gains in ubiquitous activity, with its paradoxical repercussions that affect two elements common to all human activities: time and space. Public-private boundary overflows and the incorporation of the modus operandi of productive restructuring into policies for regulation and evaluation of Brazilian post-graduation studies create tensions in various aspects of the work of university teaching. Based on an investigation conducted among professors at 48 doctorate education courses, we analyze the trends toward ubiquitous work, in a context in which work and education are under severe attack by government policies. The analyses indicate an intensification of the multi-tasking character of the work and of the in/extensification of the work to other times and spaces, which redesigns and compromises the intellectual work of the researchers.
