THE BOLSA FAMÍLIA PROGRAM AND EDUCATIONAL CONDITIONALITY: AN ANALYSIS OF SCHOOL PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS UNDER POVERTY

Abstract

By identifying a gap in the scientific production regarding research that addresses the school performance of students who benefit from the Bolsa Família Program (PBF) and their opinion about the program, we conducted a study focused on the performance of high school students from two public schools in the city of Corumbá in Mato Grosso do Sul. The study explores the perceptions formulated by students – beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries – regarding the PBF and the performance they achieved throughout the schooling process. Part of the analyzed data was collected through two questionnaires answered by the students, and another part comes from the School Histories checked. The crossing of data and the use of Statistics enabled comparisons between the school performance of beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries. The results indicate little difference in performance between the two subgroups and highlight the positive impact of the PBF on the schooling of the benefited students.
