Fears in Medical Education and Practice: Psychological Aspects

Abstract:

This study describes the medical education in Brazil and worldwide, approaching to some historical features since the origin of the student to the current vision of the professional The medical students' psychical development and their vital cycle stage are emphasized in order to adjust the motivation, that brought them to search this kind of activity, looking upon the expression of medical education at present time, performing its conflicts, difficulties and essential aspirations. The image of the physician is presented, approaching to the inherent symbolism of its attitude towards death. The cultural and social expectations are discussed. Finally, the current curriculum, its composition and changes that already have been made are analyzed and questioned. Psychological, emotional and envirommental equilibrium are suggested with teaching purpose in order to reduce students' anxiety from the contact with their own fears.
