Abstract:
In a qualitative study envolving 25 physicians in the city of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, in the year 2001, the theme “physician-pacient interation” permeated the data analysis and discussion, revealing importante dimensions in the daily construction of “being a doctor” and personal satisfaction with the profession. The objective of this article is to reclain this issue in the hope of generating individual and collective reflections that foster a review of atitudes during medical training and practice, seeking to promote patient satisfaction in the physician-pacient relationship, physician satisfaction with the medical practice, and thar of faculty and students in relation to the teaching/learning process. The empirical data as well as material gleanes from the literature. Based on analysis of the interviews, medical education has failed to prioritize issues related to physician-patient and faculty-student interaction, a situation that could be changed if componentes of human care were incorporated into this contexto.
