The complexity of care on gerontogeriatric nursing in the daily practice

Lecture performed at the VIII Brazilian Conference on Gerontologic and Geriatric Nursing, in April 2010. It was held in Rio de Janeiro and organized by the ABEn/RJ. The complexity of care on gerontogeriatric nursing in the daily practice has been developed in topics: the complexity of Gerontology related to the phenomenon of population aging, whose emerging and interdisciplinary field of knowledge is facing challenges and imperative responses to the rapid changes in society, due to the increase of the elderly population and of people’s longevity. Thus, the public policies and aging population present political-economic obstacles and challenges in the operation of the local health system, in the program for the elderly that has already been established by the ordinance of the health policy for the elderly. Finally, the challenges of nursing in daily practices to the elderly, which highlight the need to implement the elderly’s program at the UBS / ESF, along with the health staff proper training, the connection between gerontogeriatric nursing and nursing staff at the UBS/ESF, in order to improve the primary care for the elderly, their families and social entrepreneurship for alternative or complementary designs from gerontogeraitric services.
