History of industrial education in Brazil: a historiographic analysis of Celso Suckow’s works

Abstract:

The present study performed a historiographic analysis of the work História do ensino industrial no Brasil, by the educator-engineer Celso Suckow da Fonseca (1905-1966). We used the historical method as described by Rüsen (2015), seeking to understand the theoretical and methodological assumptions that guides the work. The understandings of intellectual, social place and the writing of history are references for the analysis of the source. Given his work in various roles in the field of Vocational Education in Brazil, Suckow presents evidence of his engaged writing. From the interpretative matrices proposed by Xavier (2011), we point out elements of the political-institutional matrix in the work analyzed, but concomitantly with the sociological and political-ideological matrices.
