Hematological changes and pregnancy

The authors approach the physiologic changes that occur in the hematological system during pregnancy, emphasizing in particular, changes in the red cells, and the iron metabolism. They also critically analyze the so-called "physiologic anemia", which refers to physiologic hemodilution that occurs during this period. They also consider the necessity of widespread use of iron supplements in all pregnancies.
