Laparoscopy in the placement of catheter ambulatory peritoneal dyalisis (CAPD)

The authors show their experience with the use of laparoscopy for the placement of a peritoneal dialysis catheter. This article has the objective of presenting the results of the procedure, with special attention to the surgical techniques and advantages whem compared with the conventional process. Fifty-one patients have been operated; all of them had chronic renal failure that required dialysis. Their ages have oscillated between 12 and 82 years, with 19 males (37,3%) and 32 females (62,7%). The surgical procedure was a first implant in 44 patients, a new implant in three and a replacement in four. The postoperative function was satisfactory in 92% of the cases, with complications related to the procedure in three cases (5,9%). There were no deaths.
