Nursing care to patient on electroconvulsive therapy

Resumos

O tratamento de doenças mentais por eletrochoque teve já sua jase áurea e está hoje quase em desuso. Alguns médicos, entretanto, ainda o utilizam, embora de forma restrita. A assistência a pacientes submetidos a esse tratamento está sendo encarada, simplesmente, como uma tarefa a mais a ser cumprida, não se dando aos pacientes a atenção e o preparo que eles merecem. São apresentadas neste trabalho algumas considerações gerais- e a assistência de enfermagem que deve ser dispensada ao paciente quando o tratamento prescrito c o cletrochoque.

Eletric convulsive shock therapy has become a controversial topic in psychiatric services. Patients continue to have electroconvulsive therapy. The team nursing has seen the treatment as just another task. In this paper the authors present how the nurse can help the patient who is submitted to electroconvulsive therapy.
