Communication of scientific production and knowledge visibility in nursing

The Revista Gaúcha de Enfermagem kicks off the year 2017 with an important edition of articles written by curious and dedicated researchers, including studies in the field of mental healthcare for children, adolescents and adults.

Patient safety is one of the themes addressed in this edition. In nursing, the issue is a concern that dates back to Florence Nightingale and harm free patient care. In the current healthcare context, it gained international prominence with the publication of the report “To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System” in 1999, followed by the United Nation’s World Alliance for Patient Safety in 2004 and, in Brazil, the creation of the National Patient Safety Program in 2013.

In the field of administration, this edition offers papers on continuing education, employee quality of life and professional autonomy. User satisfaction considers auscultation as one of the elements of assessment in nursing care, thereby contributing to nursing management and qualification in the National Health System (SUS). A challenging debate on leadership in nursing is also present, reflecting on this boundless research question.

The publication also presents studies focusing on nursing care in blood transfusions for newborns, support for the families of pediatric patients and therapeutic relationships in mental health. The topics of HIV/AIDS and smoking bring new knowledge to professional practice.

Also featured are papers on teaching in higher education nursing programs, the use of information technology as an educational strategy for families and analysis of informative videos online.

The different research methods used in the selected articles are another feature of this edition. Quantitative and qualitative research, integrative reviews, case studies and experience reports, and the translation, adaptation and validation of questionnaires provide readers with content to help qualify their scientific knowledge and add value to their professional practice.

In this respect, the RGE continues to carry out its mission of disseminating scientific knowledge in nursing and health, contributing to the visibility of research on in the national and international arena.

This ongoing development throughout its 40-year history has allowed the journal to mature and overcome obstacles through a wealth of experience, challenges, victories and achievements, confirming its commitment to communicating the knowledge produced in the fields of Nursing and Health, as well as providing information and reflections geared towards new issues, discoveries and transformations that connect us with social needs.

In addition to meeting the teaching, research and extension expectations of the Nursing School community, the RGE has enabled the expansion and development of the institution in the academic setting by connecting us with the future, stimulating internationalization, and maintaining partnerships and integration between different areas of knowledge to encourage interdisciplinarity and innovation.

RGE is a journal that grows, develops and changes along with society, viewing its social relevance as a means of ensuring the training and production of health in the population.
