Families with undernourished children: the challenges of working in groups

This study deals with experiences of nurses, faculty, and students of the undergraduate course in Nursing from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina-UFSC, with the objective of showing the experiences of families with undernourished children, through monthly meetings of a Florianópolis County program to supplement nourishment. The method applied to the study included group activities, playing, and exchange of knowledge associated with the concepts of family as a unit of care and as a unit in expansion. The results point out that interdisciplinary action is fundamental in working with the needs of the family as a whole. The group activities associated with playing permit the strengthening of ties between adults and children and encourage stimulating and effective care in the promotion health among family members. It was concluded that this study was a stage for mutual learning, which furthered the valuation of the family in public services.
