The study was based on Paulo Freire's pedagogical theory of problematizing education. The subjects of the study were 33 women with mastectomies who attend a rehabilitation center and 16 members of the center's multiprofesional team. Discussion circles were used for data collection, separately for women and the team members. Content analysis proposed by Bardin was used in data analysis. According to the team, educational material must cover the characterization of the lymphatic system and the lymphedema; detection and control actions; risk factors; and therapies and their repercussions. It should also explain the reasons for each orientation and use understandable language. For women it is important to regard the physiopathology of lymphedema; data about the surgery and treatment; predisposing factors for the development of lymphedema; and the importance of self care.
