ABSTRACT - This paper presents morphological data as well as the leaf anatomy of Qualea magna Kuhlm. and Qualea cryptantha (Spreng.) Warm. These two species of Vochysiaceae occur in the Reserva Florestal da Cia. Vale do Rio Doce, Linhares, Espirito Santo.

The anatomical observations of the petiole and leaf blade showed bicollateral vascular bundles in the petiole and midrib of both species and in the secondary veins of Q cryptantha. Among other structures, we observed tanniferous, crystalliferous and mucilaginous idioblasts and also a multiple epidermis.

We also note the presence of extra floral nectaries that are probably associated to Azteca (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) ants which build chambers on the branches of Q magna.
