Seed germination of Euterpe epulis Mart

SUMMARY

This paper reports the effects of seed treatments and soil covering on the germination of Euterpe edulis Mart.

After nine months of observations, statistical analysis of the data showed the following results: concerning speed and total of germination the bare soil treatment was superior to the soil covered with dead plant material.

The best results of seed treatments were obtained in fruits pulp removed and fruits with vegetative pore scraped. The use of sulphuric acid was not efficient to increase the germination rate.
