Abstract

COSTA, Vital Paulino; PIMENTEL, Sérgio Luís G.; WARREN, Sheila Helen C.  and  ABUJAMRA, Suel. Argon laser photocoagulation in the treatment of central serous retinopathy. Arq. Bras. Oftalmol. [online]. 1991, vol.54, n.5, pp.213-216. ISSN 0004-2749.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/0004-2749.19910012.

The authors analise 67patients (72 eyes) with central serous retinopathy treated with argon laser photocoagulation. They observe that 86,2% presented final visual acuities better or equal to 20/40 and that 87,5% were considered cured in less than 2 months.

Thirty three patients have had a mean follow up of 25,2 months. Nine of them (27,3%) showed recurrence in an average of 25 months after photocoagulation and 2 (6%) developed subretinal neovascularization.

The results support that argon laser photocoagulation is a safe and efficient treatment, leading to a small ocurrence of complications.

Keywords : central serous retinopathy; argon laser; photocoagulation; leaking point.
