Abstract

FERNANDES, José Ricardo Oriá. History teaching and cultural diversity: challenges and perspectives. Cad. CEDES [online]. 2005, vol.25, n.67, pp. 378-388. ISSN 0101-3262.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0101-32622005000300009.

This essay discusses the theme of cultural diversity and its implications in History teaching. The adoption of Law nº 10.639, in 2003, which introduced the obligation of teaching the African-Brazilian and African history and culture in the basic education syllabus, contributed to the discussion of this issue, by allowing a rupture with the Eurocentric education model, and the construction of a multicultural education system in Brazilian schools.

Keywords : Cultural diversity; History; Teaching.
