EDITORIAL

Bakhtiniana. Revista de Estudos do Discurso, online, assessed by CAPES (the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate/Post-Graduate Education) as QUALIS A2 (the second highest ranking available on the system), publishes original papers that are the result of scientific research in the area of discourse studies, mostly based on the Bakhtinian perspective, as well as on the ongoing dialogue/debate with other theoretical frames of knowledge production. It also publishes: book reviews and conference reports, which are important to Literature and Linguistics field, and translated versions of theoretical texts of great interest to the discussion of Bakhtinian studies.

This 7th issue is special to us, members of the technical (Bruna L. Dugnani) and academic team, and also to each author, reader and colleague. It gives us a sense of achievement due to many reasons. First, Bakhtiniana has become a bilingual journal, one of the first bilingual journals in our field in Brazil (if not the first one!): all papers will be fully published in Portuguese and English from this issue on. The editorial main objective, thus, is to increase visibility to the national scientific production, which carries little international prestige, mostly because it is unknown. To accomplish this aim, we have created a Foreign Language Editorial Department, composed of Assistant Editor Rodolfo Vianna and professors from American and Brazilian universities.

Our second reason for great joy is Bakhtiniana’s imminent acceptance to SciELO Brasil (a major electronic library covering a selected collection of Brazilian scientific journals), considering the positive assessment given by the Advisory Board in its 31st Meeting. Some of the minor recommended adjustments certainly aiming at the journal improvement have been made in this issue. Concurrently, we have sought for new indexations: DOAJ, LivRe!, and Latindex.

Finally, we have had the pleasure to count with a great number of papers submitted to this issue - Language and teaching: dialogic perspective. 49 high quality papers were received, each of which was peer reviewed by our Advisory Board or by guest referees from several universities, resulting in the selection of 14 texts. We thus observed the wide-range and diffusion of Bakhtinian teachings to research done in different states, from public and private universities, from Ceará (UECE – state university), Alagoas (two papers from UFAL – federal university), Brasília (UnB – federal university), Rio de Janeiro (UFF – federal university), São Paulo (USP – state university, PUC-SP – private university , UNITAU – private university, UNIFAFIBE – private university), Paraná (UFPR – federal university, UEL – state university), and Santa Catarina (UFSC – federal university).

In these papers, the reflections and experiences regarding the contribution of Bakhtinian studies to education either emanated from a broad view of teaching and learning, as in the papers of Ramalho, Teixeira and Zozzoli, which focused on the teacher’s work; or primarily took the teaching of mother tongue into consideration from the beginning of literacy acquisition, as in Calil’s paper, to its development, as Araújo, Ribeiro & Santos and Puzzo presented in their studies. Other papers have addressed an important aspect of Portuguese teaching– textual production, addressed in Guariglia, Pistori and Rocha’s papers, or literary production, in Kraemer and Perfeito’s text. Furthermore, a concern regarding the teaching of a foreign language in a dialogic perspective was addressed in Fanjul, Figueredo, and Janzen’s papers. Finally, Signor stressed the potentiality of the Bakhtinian concept of genre to speech therapy practice. Therefore, not only have the papers mobilized the concepts of dialogism, genre, active and responsive understanding, chronotope, among others, but they have also shown their potentiality to the earnest work of professors and researchers.

Marchezan’s translation of a paper written by Craig Brandist, British researcher from the University of Sheffield, UK, and a specialist in Bakhtinian studies, meets Bakhtiniana’s concern to promote texts with which the national academic community might be less familiar. In this spirit, this issue runs two reviews of recently published works: Trevisan signs a text reviewing Campos book on "the national identity construction," and Castro comments on the new Portuguese version of texts by the Circle.

As it is possible to see, 20 authors, among paper writers, reviewers and translators from 12 universities, one of which is overseas, participated in this issue. Bakhtiniana once again fulfills its aim to promote and to publicize research papers on discourse studies, collected every six months and written by researchers from Brazil and abroad, with a present international reach.
