Essências papeleiras de reflorestamento: 8 madeiras nativas da Amazônia.

This paper presents information obtained during the course of laboratory trials in which eight tropical amazon hardwoods were considered for pulpwood. First their geographical distributions within the Brasilian Amazon and existing silvicultural information were summarized. The woods were then characterized with respect to chemical composition, density, case of chipping and chip type. Processes for making alkaline pulp and demi-chemical pulp (N.S.S.C) were also described along with the associated bleacking procedures and the methods used to determine the mechanical properties at the resulting board and paper products. The results were then compared and it was concluded that all eight species are suitable pulpwoods which should be considered in future reforestation programs within the Brazilian Amazon.
