Amarantáceas: Nova opção de espinafres tropicais para a Amazônia

Summary

These experiments were carried out in experimental plots at INPA-CNPq Manaus on species, varieties and cultivares of Amaranthaceas (to be consumed as spinach), and are part of a programe at INPA to introduce cultivated material from other countries in the humid tropics, with the aim of increasing variety in the market and promoting the production of vegetables of low cost to inhabitants with low buying power. Chicken manure (2 l/m2) was the only fertilizer used, except that in the experiments on sucessive cuttings 0,2% nitrogenous fertilizer was applied after each harvesting by cuttings. Phytossanitary treament was carried out In the sown beds only. Amaranthus cruentus produced the most in the first experiment, followed by Celosia argentea cv. Avounvo Rouge. In the second and third experiments Celosia argentea cv. Avounvo Vert was the best.
