Two new brazilian species of Velloziaceae are described in this paper: Pleurostima riparia N. Menezes & Mello-Silva and Vellozia lateola Mello-Silva & N. Menezes, both from the Grão-Mogol área, in the Espinhaço Range of Mountains, north of Minas Gerais. Descriptions including anatomical features of leaves and íllustrations are presented. Aiso, the peculiar characters and taxonomic relationships of each species are discussed
