Occurrence of glaucoma after surgery for congenital cataracts

SUMMARY

Aiming the investigation of the occurence of glaucoma after surgery for congenital cataracts, 51 eyes of 44 children with this disease were evaluated prospectively. Results showed incidence of glaucoma in 4 cases (7.8%). In all of them the mechanism of glaucoma involved inflamation associated with the presence of vitreous humor in the anterior chamber. Glaucoma was detected in all cases within the first month cifter surgery.
