Evaluation of water consumption on taps at a university campus

Currently, water consumption is on the agenda of most organizations around the world. As well as the environmental benefits brought about by a more efficient use of natural resources; there are also economic reasons to reduce operational costs. This paper presents the results of measurements made on water taps at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas, Brazil. The measurements were obtained automatically through a wireless sensor network, using Rfbee and Xbee devices specifically designed to collect the data. The main results show that water consumption is high and that measures must be taken to reduce consumption to less than 5 litres per minute.
