FIRST REPORT OF EPOLIGOSITA MEXICANA VIGGIANI (HYMENOPTERA: TRICHOGRAMMATIDAE) IN BRAZIL

ABSTRACT

This is the first record of the parasitoid Epoligosita mexicana Viggiani (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) in Brazil. The objective of the study was to survey parasitoids of Leptopharsa heveae Drake and Poor (Hemiptera: Tingidae) eggs or nymphs and/or adults in rubber-tree folioles of 5 clones at the Plantações E. Michelin Ltda. farm, at Itiquira, MT, Brazil. Besides the L. heveae’s egg parasitoids, 49 specimens of E. mexicana were obtained from the rubber-tree folioles. The methodology employed in the surveys did not eliminate the endophytic postures of other insects, besides those of L. heveae. As nymphs of unidentified leafhoppers (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) were observed in the surveys, it is not possible to confirm the association of E. mexicana with L. heveae eggs, since the species has as primary hosts Cicadellidae species.
