Abstract:
In the last quarter of the 19th century, there were countless battles in defense of the renewal of the contents of history in the Brazilian school space. One of the main guidelines of the discussions was related to the expansion of the History of the Mother country in History, which until then had privileged the classic European experience. In this article, we analyze the process of construction of the space of São Paulo and the defense of the History of Brazil in the writing of the school history of the intellectual Paulo Américo Braziliense. A central source is the school book, published in 1876, which reverberated the displacement of the space axis of the Court to the Province of São Paulo, in the context of the process of construction of the republican political culture of São Paulo after the Itu Convention (1873).
