Studies on neuropsychological assessment of cerebrovascular disorders (CVD) in childhood are rare. To trace a neuropsychological profile of the child after a cerebrovascular insult (CVI) 28 children were rated, 14 from this group, the experimental group (EG), and 14 from the control group (CG).
EG included seven male subjects and seven female subjects. Ages were from 7 years and 1 month old to 14 years and 1 month old (average 9 years and 10 months old) at the time rating. The CG was matched in gender and age to the EG.
Neuropsychological investigation protocol included anamnesis, instructor questionnaire, intelligence test, visuo-motor test, human figure drawing, and neuropsychological task.
Results showed that fulfilment after CVI was better when time of functional recovery was shorter. CG fulfilement was over that of EG for all instruments used to cognitive, perceptive and motor areas. EG patients with repeated seizures had low intellectual performance.
In conclusion, neuropsychological investigation set up relationships of cerebral damage with cognitive and behavior processees of the child after CVI.
