Open-access Forest cover dynamics in APPs in the Paraitinga basin by property type: 1985-2020

Dinámica de la cobertura forestal en APP de la cuenca de Paraitinga por tipo de propiedad: 1985-2020

Activities on rural properties influence land use and cover dynamics in Permanent Preservation Areas, affecting forest cover regeneration and restoration. The aim is to understand the different dynamics of land use and occupation in the PPAs of the Paraitinga basin from 1985 to 2020 among different rural property types: “Rural Producer”, “New Rural”, and “Industrial”, grouped by activities declared in the CAR. There are differences in land use and occupation dynamics in PPAs by type; in “Rural Producer” and “New Rural” properties, forests in PPAs grow more slowly compared to properties with industrial activities (forestry). The study shows that different motivations exist for restoration actions and that a single public policy cannot encourage all owners to restore forests in PPAs.
