Methodology to evaluate the social responsibility of the public universities

Abstract

This article presents the results of a research directed at building a methodology to evaluate the Social Responsibility of public Universities based on criteria, subcriteria and attributes. It’s an exploratory and bibliographic research that was conducted in three parts: first, focused on the gathering of data to help with the construction of the study and organization of the work. The bibliographic review included reports of self-evaluation and external evaluation, legislation and studies conducted by researchers; second, intentionally and propositionally, used the collection of criteria to help measure the degree of Social Responsibility at the University through reports of self-evaluation of the Federal Institutions of Higher Education and compatible bibliographies, generating the questionnaire containing the criteria, subcriteria and attributes; and third the collaboration of specialists of the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research, who having been previously contacted, made an evaluation of the formatted questionnaire and suggested improvements. The proposed methodology to evaluate the social responsibility resulted in seven criteria, and twenty-seven subcriteria accompanied by attributes that allow evaluating qualitatively the Social Responsibility of the University.
