Training doctors: the quality in question

Teachers and students make severe criticisms of medical courses. They range from simple laboratory activities to patient care. This paper aims to discuss the quality of training and present methodological alternatives to medical education. National and international rankings, national and international performance appraisals and medical competences were taken as reference. In the analysis of statistical data, the most relevant information from the available bibliography was taken as reference. The expansion of medical courses, the consequent increase in vacancies, public policy interfaces and Higher Education Institutions deserve to be highlighted, as well as the offer of new teaching methodologies available, highlighting the Problem Based Learning (PBL). The formationofthe future doctor, seen in the current sociocultural context of the country, points to the need for changes in the medical graduation process.
