During 2002, a total of 184 scientific papers were submitted to the Brazilian Journal of Biology. Of these, 117 were published in four numbers of the journal. To evaluate the papers, 73 advisors reviewed them. Speaking of numbers, the Association of the Brazilian Journal of Biology counts 148 members. Universities and faculties of biology affiliated with the BJB number 100.
In this beginning of the twenty-first century, research in biodiversity as well as studies in botany, zoology, and ecology of neotropical America are highly relevant, not only for scientific advancement but also in developing programs directed at sustainability and conservation throughout the Americas.
