SUMMARY

Crosses have been made for several years trying to combine in hybrids some of the best qualities of well known varieties of Arachis hypogaeaL., as for example high yielding, uniformity of the seed and high oil content. Some plants proved well, their production being as good as the production of our best variety, with the advantage of having longer life cicle and larger seed.

Inter-specific crosses between A. hypogaeaand A. villosulicarpamade for disease resistance never produced fruits.

Colchicine treatment on seed, roots, cotyledonary buds and on the main stem have been also made, looking for favorable phenotypic mutations, independent of chromosome duplication. Polysomatic roots and plants different from normal were obtained; larger and more uniform seed as compared with the normal ones are economically the most interesting result of colchicine effect.
