Claims from ABRASCO for controlling Aedes aegypti in Brazil

Abstract

In face of a complex epidemiological scenario with cases of zika, microcephaly, chikungunya and dengue in Brazil, the Brazilian Association of Collective Health (ABRASCO) presented concrete claims for Aedes aegypti control. This study argues that these claims do little to improve these actions because i) do not propose feasible technical or methodological changes that can improve the control of actions, ii) except in incontestable propositions already known, the claims are not supported by the literature and iii) do not problematize important social and environmental determinants which hinder the effectiveness of control measures in Brazil's cities.
