Brazilian authoritarianism among Caesars and Napoleons

Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to propose an explanatory hypothesis for contemporary authoritarianism in Brazil that takes into account the specifics of our culture and history. Therefore, and to problematize the interpretative proposals based on a Brazilian re-edition of Italian fascism, we will start by discussing the problem of repetition in history and the heuristic function of the past and national culture in explaining the present from Hegel, Marx and Gramsci. As a conclusion, we suggest interpreting the bolsonarism as the current political form of neoliberal reactionary restoration in Brazil.
