Informação em Saúde: Os Desafios Continuam

The paper presents some of the challenges faced by the subject "Health Information" in Brazil. Initially, it addresses the historical evolution of the initiatives related to information in Brazil, pointing out the logic behind the organization and scope of the information systems in the country. Considering the huge increase in the volume of information related to health in the last decade, it shows, in a panoramic way, the core political and academic issues in this field of knowledge: education, research and the diffusion of the papers presented in scientific congresses and symposia. Than, it describes some relevant initiatives toward a more integrated action in the realm of faculty boards and research groups, as well as health professionals affiliated with health facilities. The theme "Health Information" seems to currently define a strategic and conflictive space of knowledge aiming to define new directions for the Health Information Policy. In its concluding section, the paper proposes the establishment of a National Health Information Committee, aiming to improve information collection and its shared dissemination, addressing current political, economical, ideological and cultural constraints in the field of health information, in order to offer the community comprehensive and sound information that could improve their own standards of life.
