Strategies and tactics in training of the rural elementary teacher in Sergipe (1946 - 1963)

ABSTRACT

This article is the result of a research which had the objective of understanding how the formation of the rural elementary teacher in Sergipe was configured between 1946 and 1963. In order to achieve the objectives, the bibliographic and documentary researches were used altogether based on the Oral History methodology to interview nine rural teachers from Sergipe. The concepts of strategy and tactics formulated by M ichel deCerteau (1996) were used as reference. The results point to government strategies and teachers’ tactics as essential aspects for understanding rural education in Sergipe. This is because it was from the Technical Cooperation Agreements established between Brazil and the United States, and from the consequent national and local education policies adopted for the rural areas that it was possible to understand how the strategies of the government are thought and operationalized, and, when listening to the representations of the teachers report about the teaching practices, it was possible to perceive their formation tactics and how they were linked to a model that combined educational policies, local political injunctions and personal disposition and availability.
