Rabelados de Espinho Branco: Identity and (r)existence in a counter-colonial perspective when facing recoloniality

This article addresses the complex reality of the Espinho Branco Rabelados community in Cape Verde. The objective of this article is to share the results of research regarding the cosmogony of the Rabelados community and how the group confronts recolonialism and the present. The methodology used to conduct ethnographic research, during a period of deep immersion, allows for an understanding of the group's cultural practices and traditions. Through a provocative counter-colonial approach, the bibliographies used seek to strengthen the dialogue regarding the group’s (r)existence within the cultural identity described over the years. To understand the debate, it is important to consider some pertinent discussions about the colonial period and liberation movements across the African continent. Research was conducted between 2022 and 2023, and the result was the observation that the group played an important social role in the historical and cultural maintenance of Cape Verdean traditions.
