EDITOR'S LETTER

Dear all,

Another year gets to the end! Our thirtieth! Closing this volume, our Scientfic Editor, Dr. Marinice Cardoso, pictures on our cover the challenge of producing vegetables in the Amazon region. At the same time, Dr. Cardoso shows us that hard work and perseverance do overcome obstacles.

As usual in the Editor's Letters that close our volumes, we make here a brief review of the year:

1. We increased the number of papers published in Horticultura Brasileira from an average of 100 in recent years to 121 in 2012, which means an additional issue in practical terms. Besides the extra workload on the Editorial Board, the immediate consequences are the increase in our total cost (we almost reached 800 pages in volume 30) and the fall in the Impact Factor. Concerning the latter, I make a special request to our readers: when publishing elsewhere, cite Horticultura Brasileira when relevant and appropriate;

2. We consolidated this year our website (www.horticulturabrasileira.com.br). Our page proudly flaunts an average of 80 visits and 70 Mb downloaded daily. Also, in late July we launched our online system for paper submission (http://www.horticulturabrasileira.com.br/editor/index.php/HB). Friendly, agile and transparent, the system was readily accepted and, by the end of November, we already counted with 80 submissions. Once again, our thanks to Dr. João Bosco Carvalho da Silva, who once for all brought us online;

3. We almost reached our goal of 40% of papers published in English. We scored 35.5%! Never mind, we will go on pursuing this goal in 2013!

We also wanted to thank our scientific editor Dr. Paulo César Tavares de Melo, who lent us for years his status and reputation and now leaves the editorship. Paulo César, feel pleased each time a new issue of Horticultura Brasileira appears: tacitly, they will continue bearing much of your contribution.

Finally, our very special greeting to the family Horticultura Brasileira. Our deepest thanks for your never ending collaboration with our journal.

See you in the next issue, next volume,

Paulo Melo

Editor in chief
