UNESCO’S POLITICAL-EDUCATIONAL INFLUENCE ON THE SECOND STAGE OF THE SPANISH FRANCOIST DICTATORSHIP AND ON THE GENERAL EDUCATIONAL LAW OF 1970

ABSTRACT

The year 1959 brought with it a new stage in the political sphere in Spain. The Franco dictatorship underwent numerous changes in its political, economic and social model, promoting a new policy of international openness. These changes were also carried out in the educational field, seeking to introduce in Spain new educational and pedagogical models that triggered a comprehensive educational reform, adapted to the needs of society and the economy of the time. At the same time, Spain would begin its relations with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, essential in the creation and implementation of the General Education Law of 1970 and the educational changes that were intended to be introduced in education. Therefore, this research explores and presents the influence that UNESCO could exert in the different reforms carried out in the Spanish educational system between 1959 and 1970 and in the design of the General Education Law.
