This article compares three eighteenth century evaluations about jesuitic missions among the Guaranis - Relação abbreviada da republica, que os religiosos jesuitas estabelecerão no Paraguai, by Marquis of Pombal, Candide, by Voltaire, and O Uraguay, by Basílio da Gama - pointing out their similarities and singularities in terms of their personal motivations, literary styles and nationality - Portuguese, French and Brazilian, respectively.
