Routes and mishaps: Operational Deficits, Balance Sheet and Goods of the Estrada de Ferro Vitoria a Minas at times of crisis (1902-1942)

Abstract

The construction of the Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM), in the early twentieth century, sought to set up more effective communications between the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, integrating important region of the Brazilian hinterland to the Victoria Port. Our goal is to understand the specificities of this railroad in relation to their form of regional operations, operating balances and balance sheets in phase in which, within the frameworks of the periodicity proposed (1902-1942), coffee transport was the priority for recipes since the development of this crop in eastern Minas Gerais and north / northwest of the state of the Espírito Santo. Used as main source reports EFVM, from which we perceive the movement of loads in the different stations of this railway company, the nature of revenue and expenditure, financial aspects and economic growth in the region cut the tracks.
