Multiprofessional Residency in Mental Health: a theoretical framework for professional education

Multiprofessional residency programs in mental health are modalities of education that invest in the training of professionals to work in the field of Brazilian public healthcare. Above all, this includes insertion in mental health facilities, through supervised practices and theoretical classes. Considering the expansion of openings in this modality of training in recent years, there is still a shortage of literature that addresses the theoretical and pedagogical framework that supports this training format. The objective of the present article was to present and discuss the theoretical and methodological framework behind the multiprofessional residency program in mental health of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), namely: Educational Itineraries, Supervision, Clinical Seminars, Forum R1-R2, Social Control, and the Teaching-Service connection. The results show that professional training is mediated by different strategies, in accordance with the clinical, ethical and political assumptions that guide the professional practices in the public mental health network.
