Curriculum content and Brazilian Health System (SUS): analytical categories, gaps and challenges

The aim of this study was to describe and analyze the gaps and challenges in the directionality of curriculum content for the Brazilian Health System (SUS) in the light of the National Curriculum Guidelines. This was a quantitative and qualitative documentary study. To explore the curriculum content, the following analytical categories were used: a) focus of care; b) scope of care; and c) dimensions of the individuals and population considered with regard to care. Results indicate that to transform the healthcare model in Brazil and thus consolidate SUS, there is a need for professional training with a curriculum structure that makes it possible to comprehend the subjective aspects of human health and to understand that education and professional training are not distinct and independent from daily practices and healthcare services.
