Mobile communications are permeating virtually every aspect of our lives. The market is experiencing rapid improvements in technologies, while mobile operators are trying to figure out new ways their infrastructures can provide services to the customers. Furthermore, user-innovation with new ways of using these technologies generates powerful feedback loops back into the innovation processes. In this turbulent environment it is difficult to capture and conceptualize how newness comes about and what the main characteristics of innovation are. The aim of this paper is to illustrate how the concept of interactive innovation can be applied to explain the development of mobile services. This study adopts the perspective of the developer rather than the user. Moreover, through the social construction of technology lens, the concepts of sense-making and bricolage are applied to explain the innovation appropriation process during the mobile data value chain improvement process. One of the conclusions drawn is that in the rapidly changing and complex context of mobile services development, the traditional notion of 'interactive innovation' cannot fully explain this phenomenon that takes place.

Este artigo apresenta uma proposta de metodologia para a implantação de um Sistema de Gestão da Segurança da Informação (SGSI). A metodologia é baseada nos principais padrões e normas de segurança, definindo um conjunto de diretrizes a serem observadas para garantir a segurança de um ambiente computacional ligado em rede. O processo de implantação do SGSI resulta na padronização e documentação dos procedimentos, ferramentas e técnicas utilizadas, além da criação de indicadores, registros e da definição de um processo educacional de conscientização da organização e de seus parceiros. Os conceitos e idéias aqui apresentados foram aplicados em um estudo de caso envolvendo a empresa Cetrel S.A. - Empresa de Proteção Ambiental. Para esta empresa, responsável pelo tratamento de resíduos industriais provenientes do Pólo Petroquímico de Camaçari-BA e de outras regiões, a garantia da confidencialidade e integridade dos dados de seus clientes, além da possibilidade de disponibilizar informações com segurança são requisitos fundamentais de funcionamento.

Information security has actually been a major challenge to most organizations. Indeed, information security is an ongoing risk management process that covers all of the information that needs to be protected. ISO 17799 offers what companies need in order to better manage information security. The best way to implement this standard is to ease the security management process using a methodology that will define will define guidelines, procedures and tools that will be needed along the way. Hence, this paper proposes a methodology to assist companies in assessing their compliance with BS 7799/ ISO 17799 as well as planning and implementing the actions necessary to become compliant or certified to the standard. The concepts and ideas presented here had been applied in a case study involving the Cetrel S/A - Company of Environmental Protection. For this company, responsible for treatment of industrial residues generated by the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex and adjacent areas, to assure confidentiality and integrity of customers' data is a basic requirement.

This paper analyzes the capacity-planning process of database management systems focusing the theoretical decision models that considers the variables constraints that could be taken slightly and other variable constraints that are indispensable during upgrade. In order to proceed with the aforementioned, we assume that capacity planning decision, which considers the general corporate, technical, users and executive views aiming at prioritizing a measurable relative importance of the planning constraints is capable of giving more economic added-value decision elements to the management. Thus, the optimization multicriteria analysis leads us to infer upon the reasonableness of the decision taken in regard to implementing budgetary planning in moment of business uncertainties. Results of this study indicate that corporate strategic views in decision-taking processes some times override some technical, users and executive views as relating to capacity planning in information technology management environment.

Sistema de Informação (SI) é um campo de estudo que se preocupa com uma variedade de questões multifacetadas, inerentes ao desenvolvimento, uso e implicações das tecnologias de informação e comunicação nas organizações. Trata-se de um campo de estudo recente, razão pela qual não é bem compreendido por acadêmicos e profissionais de outras áreas e até de áreas relacionadas com SI, a exemplo da própria ciência administrativa. Neste trabalho, escrito para acadêmicos e profissionais, uma tentativa é feita para apresentar algumas áreas temáticas de SI, fundações teóricas e algumas características metodológicas e institucionais. SI é, portanto, um campo fragmentado, que não se utiliza do rigor, geralmente associado com outras disciplinas científicas, mas que tem dado origem a uma impressionante riqueza de conhecimento no nível organizacional.

Information Systems (IS) is a field of study concerned with a large range of multifaceted issues regarding the development, use and implications of information and communication technologies in organizations. It is a recent field of study, yet not well understood by academics and professionals of other areas, even in the fields related to IS such as management and operational research. In this work written for academics and professional, an attempt is made to present some thematic areas of IS, theoretical foundations and some methodological and institutional characteristics. Information Systems is a fragmented field that does not use the methodological rigor usually associated with other scientific disciplines, but has given origin to an impressive wealth of knowledge in the organizational level.

Este trabajo reporta los resultados de un estudio exploratorio, efectuado en siete organizaciones venezolanas que implantaron exitosamente un sistema de planeación de recursos empresariales (ERP). Los datos fueron recolectados por medio de un cuestionario y de entrevistas efectuadas a los siete gerentes del proyecto de implantación del sistema ERP. La finalidad del estudio fue la de conocer las percepciones de los gerentes de proyecto, sobre aspectos y actividades del proceso de implantación del sistema ERP y que están fuertemente correlacionadas con los Factores Críticos de Éxito (FCE) para esta clase de implantaciones. Los FCE se identificaron en una profunda revisión de la literatura. Se efectuaron, entre otras, preguntas sobre el apoyo de la alta gerencia al proyecto, el proceso de selección del sistema, la composicióndel equipo de trabajo y la participación y entrenamiento de los usuarios. Adicionalmente se identificaron los principales problemas que afrontaron las organizaciones durante el proceso de implantación. El estudio concluye que las empresas deben prestar mucha atención a los elementos que señalan los FCE, ya que estos impactan positivamente en el proyecto, adicionalmente se describen una serie de aspectos, que deben tomar en cuenta las organizaciones que están en el proceso de adoptar un sistema ERP para facilitar la implantación del sistema.

This paper reports on an exploratory study, carried out in seven Venezuelan organizations who have successfully implemented an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The data were collected by means of both a questionnaire and of conducted interviews to the seven project managers of the project of implementation of ERP systems in these enterprises. The purpose of the study was to know the perceptions the project managers, on aspects and activities of the process of implementing an ERP system and that are strongly correlated with the Critical Success Factors (FCE's) for this kind of projects. The FCE's were identified in a deep revision of the literature. The questionnaire included, among others, questions on the top management support to the project, the process of selection of the system, team work implementation and the participation and training of the users. Additionally were identified the problems that organizations confronted during the implementation process. The study concludes that organizations must take care the elements that indicate the FCE's, because them hit positively the project, additionally describe aspects, which must take into account the enterprises who are in the process to adopt an ERP system to facilitate its implementation.

Tradicionalmente la investigación documental ha dependido de la elaboración de fichas manuscritas cuya estructura permita la localización de textos que sean importantes para cualquier trabajo que se base en aportaciones bibliohemerográficas. Sin embargo, la localización manual de las fichas por autor, editorial, tema, o sub-tema se dificulta conforme su número se incrementa, obstaculizándose el aprovechamiento de ideas y aportaciones valiosas contenidas en fichas cuya ubicación física requiere mucho tiempo y re-lecturas. El módulo de fichas que aquí se presenta resuelve dos aspectos fundamentales de los ficheros: permite una elaboración mucho más rápida de las fichas y proporciona, en cualquier momento, la posibilidad de realizar consultas exhaustivas por múltiples criterios de búsqueda, a través de los propios textos o de cualesquiera de las combinaciones de los datos inherentes a las fichas, así, por ejemplo, se puede seleccionarse fichas correspondientes a un o varios autores, editoriales, temas, sub-temas, y fechas determinadas. Además, el módulo facilita la transcripción de los textos, registra el uso de los mismos y construye las referencias bibliohemerográficas que acompañan a los trabajos d investigación; todo ello conforme a las fichas seleccionadas para un determinado propósito. El módulo está desarrollado epistémicamente mediante la Orientación a Objetos (OO) y técnicamente a través de la utilización de Access como un manejador de base de datos de uso generalizado. Uno de los propósitos principales de este trabajo es el de motivar un reencuentro con uno de los instrumentos más necesarios para realizar investigación científica.

Generally, documental research depends on written bibliographical note cards that help find important text for a given research. However, the manual search for frequently used data such as author, publisher, topic, gets complicated as records increase resulting in a time consuming process that hinders the desired brainstorming. The software here presented solves two main issues: it allows a smoother and quicker data entry, and the flexibility to search by multiple criteria matching information for a specific author, publisher, topic, subtopic and date. The software also eases text transcription and builds the documental references that will be cited on research papers. The software is based on the object oriented (OO) programming philosophy using Microsoft Access as a widely used relational database system.
