It does not Fit: The Negation in the Process of Subjectivation of Overweight Subjects e

Abstract

Based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions from Pêcheux’s Discourse Analysis, this study aims to comprehend the sense effects that emerge from excessive discursive operations of negation in narratives mobilized by overweight subjects. From the analysis, the article proposes a possibility where that excess is related to a resistance process in the discourse of those subjects. The overweight subject, interpelled by the dominant Discursive Formation (DF), cannot establish an identification with the evidences that the DF produces: the body imposes itself as a barrier to the process of identification. However, the subject does not find a possibility of identification outside the dominant DF. The process of subjectivation of the overweight subject is crossed by a negation: the subject is what he/she is not. In other words, the overweigth subject needs to be subjectified by the opposite of the evidence. This process is linearized in his/her discourse through excessive negation uses.
