This article discusses the relevance and viability of implementing school radios, taking as background a media-literacy project carried out in five public schools in the region surrounding the University of Caxias do Sul, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The project has been following the stages of action-research (problematization-action-reflection ) and was organized so as to allow the researchers' participation in the school activities in partnership with the regular teachers to set up the school radios.
