Voice Success: Current Media Senses in Society

Abstract

This article analyzes sayings about successful voices within the contemporary Brazilian media. More precisely, using the theoretical and methodological framework of Discourse Analysis, we describe and interpret the process of producing meanings in sayings constituted and formulated by the media discourse that clearly deals with the voice of persons whose success results in principle from their vocal performance. In view of this situation, we investigated in the constitution of the discourse of success what is said of the voice, how it is enunciated and the treatment given to the voice of those who appear in today’s world of the media. To this, we have two texts from the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, one from 2011, other from 2012. The analysis of these points to the existence of a media discourse that is structured based on effects around successful voices built for its dissemination and consumption in the social space.
