Equalitarian liberalism and multiculturalism

Since multiculturalism is a matter of fact in contemporary societies the respective merits of two answers to it are examined: the multiculturalist (in the normative meaning of the term) and the equalitarian liberal (represented here by Brian Barry in his most recent work). The second conception is defended and normative multiculturalism is criticized, among other reasons for turning away the attention from the most important factors of social handicap of the discriminated groups.
