About “An Elephant Sitting Still”

ABSTRACT

This is an analysis of the Chinese feature film An Elephant Sitting Still (2018), by Hu Bo. From the configuration of individual situations understood as dead end, the film shows aspects of the conversion of a popular district through the current market economy. Considering the theme of fugue in the work, the article discusses how the narrative point of view internalizes an experience of time lived as a threat, in northern Mainland China.
