Interorganizational networks, power and dependency in Brazilian football

Starting from the case of a professional football club, the paper intends to build the whole interorganisational network it belongs to in such a way that involved actors be identified and their mutual relationships be examined. Data have been collected from semi-structured interviews whose respondents were selected for their direct or indirect participation in the network. Analysis has focused on three dual relationships - television / sport, sport / sponsor, and television / sponsor. It has been found that the largest Brazilian communications company, including both an open-signal and a cable channel, holds the biggest power along the network. Sponsors are also important to the extent that they represent some 25% of clubs' receipts. Sport organizations produce and provide the "service" - say, the "sport show" - yet have reduced power in the network, probably due to their relatively weak financial standing.
